It is the duty of the Hulu Rajang MP to raise it in Parliament
Posted by Uchu Keling on 13th May 2008 in News Extract, Sarawak Politics
YB Billy Abit Joo is the current and incumbent elected MP for Hulu Rajang and Sungai Asap is under his constituency. During the current Parliament sitting, he failed to submit his question to the Dewan Rakyat. While we sympathies with the residents of Sungai Asap, we cannot see why the MP have failed to bring this matter to the Dewan Rakyat. If he did, then, it is his duty to share with the public of what has been done. Or otherwise, the people will perceive him of not doing anything.
Give the public all the reason, the layman will still thinks that he has done nothing. The losers are those who have voted him to Parliament.

He is among the longest serving MP in Belaga. He did nothing much to develop Belaga. One MP even related to me that Billy rarely asked questions in Parliament.
Bulk of the votes he got was from the Iban, Kayan and Lahanan voters, while the Kenyah, Punan, Sekapans and Kejaman were rather split.
Hope they’ll continue to vote for him so that the Asap people can enjoy this kind of road / development a few more years to come.
Masing very much aware of this, that’s why he keeps Billy in the seat.

My suggestion is MPs should “turun padang” more often to eyewitness what’s happening. Voters have faithfully given MPs a mandate, you faithfully need to work for them. Be proactive, don’t ever wait for voters to voice even the slightest sour issues. Even if they do there are reasons for doing so, that they can’t wait any longer. Now they vote you in, next they may vote you out.

Turun Padang if they do nothing also no point.

Saya rasa orang hanya pandai komen sahaja. Jalan Pan Borneo tu bukan Highway cuma standard Jalan Kampung saja. Jalan baru rosak sikit dah cakap YB tak buat kerja. fikirlah sendiri..jangan pandai komen saja kalau kita sendiri tak duduk dekat tak tengok apa YB buat.

Orang Asap, then tell your YB to get the public well inform. Why the public react and gave comments? Simple, because they do not know what have been done.
Now, since you have read this thread, it is good of you, and we be thankful, if you care to inform Datuk Billy on the matter.
If the JPJ or Police are not doing anything, then Datuk Billy should go and see them and seek answers.
Is 5km to much to ask for repair?
Finally, it is your duty, since you have been 20 years close to Datuk Billy to keep us inform of what is happening at his constituency. Silence means it is not longer look upon as golden in this new era. To us silence means not doing anything.
Thank you for your sincere respond. We hope to see your replies soon.
Cheers and Selamat Gawai!

I live in asap..the road has been repaired many times..still the same story..peoples attitude is to blame yb..but we ourselves rosak the jalan by allowing illegal lorries to come in..why? becoz of money..so simple lah..can blame the yb all you want and he can keep repairing the road but it will never end till the people’s attitude change

Terima kasih empurau.

Orang Asap, kalau dah berkali-kali inform (tak jumpa in-person?), masih Datuk baru ni tak buat apa-apa, so macam mana?
Kena ada continuity atau apa term they all pakai sekarang - memantau?
Whack and keep whacking .. that simple or else, it is seen as not doing anything.
To Datuk Billy,
Kalau dapat

Tak payahlah nak sebut hal clubing ker karaoke ker ye.Parlimen Hulu Rajang bukanya kecil. Takan YB nak jaga tu jer.

Still Waras, yes of course! The rakyat sees it that way. Go and ask around, what is the expectation out of our representative.
Today I call upon the SUPP reps in Miri, tomorrow, you will see them on location.
Can our Dayak reps does the same? I believe our Pemanca Wilson Siang is a truly wakil rakyat bansa Dayak (at least for people in Miri, Bekenu and Sebuti).
Or, please list our what a YB should and should not jaga.

hi uchu..saya dah tengok u punya komen.
Uchu Keling | 13th June 2008 | Reply

i agree with Orang Asap 100%. Datuk Billy voiced this issue so many times.
Tubai’s comment tjat there is no turun padang is not relevant for Datuk Billy. Datuk is active to ‘turun padang’ every month, not using helicopter like James Masing but using this same road in the picture…Even brought t up in the papers… see this article in Borneo Post, in April:
Sungai Assap Internet centre ready by Sept
28 April 2008
BELAGA: An Internet centre will be set up for Sungai Assap folk when their multi-purpose hall is ready by this September.
Deputy Minister of Energy, Water and Communications Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum said besides this centre, it would accommodate a post office to provide banking transactions services, as one stop payment centre to receive payment for utility bills and an Amanah Saham Nasional (ASN) and Amanah Sham Bumiputera (ASB) investment counter.
He said this at a dialogue session with the residents of Uma Belor, one of the 15 longhouses at the Sungai Assap resettlement scheme, on Saturday night.
The Sungai Assap and Sungai Koyan centres are for the about 10,000 Orang Ulu communities affected by the implementation of the Bakun Hydro-electricity Project.
Salang was accompanied by Hulu Rajang MP Billy Abit Joo, Multimedia and Communication Commission senior director Datuk Jailani Johari, Belaga district officer Sirai Taha, Temenggong Datuk Sri Nyipa Batok, Pemanca Umek Jeno and others had earlier on visited the Bakun Dam project before the dialogue.
He said other facilities to be made available at the multipurpose centre would include a library.
“The decision to set up the Internet centre is to enable the resettled communities to communicate with the rest of the world like their counterparts in Bario, Long Bedian and Long Jengkitan,” he said.
Salang said with a wireless technology provider Sacofa Sdn Bhd planning to erect its transmission tower soon, the people here could enjoy RTM television broadcast and better cellular phone coverage.
Earlier on, Billy Abit urged the government to improve the condition of the Bakun highway as well as to have proper enforcement of traffic rules by the relevant authority.
“The highway is always very busy with huge lorries carrying heavy timber loads. This is dangerous to regular motorists. The people are patient to a certain extent, but they might be tempted one day to express their feelings in a way bad for us politicians. So I hope those responsible can act soonest,” he said.
He also hoped the Bakun highway would be maintained regularly.
“The highway is very important to the people. It is their life line. But it suffers from a chronic lack of maintenance. To make the matter worse, it is a very busy logging road as well. I believe all the requests by the Sungai Asap and Sungai Koyan people are very reasonable and fair. We should appreciate their sacrifices in making way for the implementation of the Bakun project 10 years ago,” he said.

Urging the government via a speech is one thing. To follow-up on the process with the relevant authorities is another thing.
We hope it happen in both areas of the process. No point getting the coverage on media but in actual fact nothing has really been done with the authorities.
Maybe Datuk Billy can call for a press conference and show some papers to show that there is a request, etc and that has been sent to the authorities like JKR, etc. on the road issue.
My reply here is not to question Datuk Billy on what he has done, but, it will be better to have some supporting document when giving press release.
If some effort have been done, then the people of Sungai Assap should follow up with Datuk Billy to ensure that the deliveries is being done asap.

For your information Bakun-Asap road will be repair soon. Don’t ask when, BUT soon. Stop blaming YB Datuk Billy, he has been working very hard for US in Hulu Rejang. Iban and Orang Ulu get the benefit from his hard work and generousity. Uchu Keling, the culprit is the timber company, which has been control by people from the TOP! We have try to bring TV3 and they were refuse entrance. Can you imagine that. Who can do that! it is the people from the TOP!
What we from Asap want now is get thing done for the sake of US! Stop blaming and pointing finger.
