Teenager millionaire.. Why didn’t we think of that?

The success story of Ashley Qualls, aged 18, should be a good example of how our hidden talent could make us a millionaire. Over the years in my experience as a webmaster for a media organisation and now my own portal - RumahDayak.com, I have yet to find an Iban who could transform our artistic mind into digital form.

And, while holding my current post of Human Resource Manager, I have received hundreds of resume from these Iban graduates, who did study some multimedia softwares and internet technologies during their college or university days. When I called and asked if there have a working demo website where we can view their work - the answer (as of today) - NONE!! I asked them, how good are your digital designing, they answered, “I passed it with CG of 2.00 and above“.

Some local designers (in Miri) charges up to RM2,500 for an entire website design, excluding the major programming. Well, these are students who make extra income to meet their mobile expenses.

You may view a lot of good graphics, especially vector-based, done using Adobe Illustrator from these young Chinese graphics designers in Malaysia at Deviant Art.

On the other hand, the Bidayuh group have with them the Giga Icons Advertising Agencies & Counsellors, based in Kuching and they are doing fine in the media and advertising business.

And every year we see hundreds of new young designer graduating from Lim Kok Wing institute. And those are the people that other Dayak portal should be getting in helping them to design their website interface. And, those are the people that magazine like PEGARI, Senawah, Tebilang, Kenyalang and others should be employing.

Among the local ethnic webmaster with a good designing talent, that I can say - the better ones - is Ian of MiriResortCity.com

And, if you have other good ethnic graphic designer, do let me know, because, I would love to team up with them to develop one big portal next year and to launch it on 16th September 2008, in conjunction with Sarawak’s 45 years of independence within Malaysia.
